This short story by Jeff VanderMeer (author of the Southern Reach series) was a Tor exclusive in 2017. Written in his trademark strange, yet beautiful style, The World is Full of Monsters is a horror/sci-fi mix with some wonderful body gore elements. Despite being a novelette (you can read this in less than an hour) Jeff VanderMeer packs a confusing, horrific, and poetic punch!
Following the arrival of an alien, in the form of a green furry story, our main protagonist finds his whole world turned upside down as the story delves into his mind and his very being.
It is hard to talk about this weird, fantastical tale without verging on spoiler territory, so I will just recommend you give it a try, visit Tor.com to see the story and read for free.
