In my quest to cut out single use plastic in my bathroom, and to streamline my skincare into an easier routine, I have started making some of my own essentials.
Whilst this may not be for everyone, it is a great place to start if you want to be more aware of what goes into your products.

Dry Shampoo

The first thing I replaced with a homemade option was dry shampoo. Dry shampoo is not only easy to make, but it can be tailored for your hair colour or type!

I used equal amounts of cornflour and arrowroot mixed with a few drops of lavender essential oil. I re-purposed some salt shakers to keep it in, which allows me to dust it into my hair without a mess.

To tailor to your hair colour mix cornflour with the below:
Blonde – Arrowroot
Brown – Cocoa Powder
Red – Cinnamon
Black – Charcoal
A quick google will give you advice on the best ingredients to add for your hair type.

Facial Oil

I have always made my own facial oil which I use to soften and moisturise my skin (it is also brilliant for removing makeup), my current oil is made with:

1/3 Aloe Vera Gel
1/3 Jojoba Oil
1/3 Sweet Almond Oil
4 Drops of Lavender Essential Oil

Simply mix together and apply to your face with a reusable cloth!

Face Mist

I love using face mist to add some hydration to my skin and will give my face a spritz a few times a day. To make your own face mist, select a tea such as Peppermint, Chamomile or Green tea (it is really your choice!) and brew a teabag. I used Peppermint tea, once brewed and cooled I poured into a spray bottle and add a few drops of Lavender essential oil.

Room Spray

I always use lavender room spray (I’m Lavender obsessed, can you tell? :p) so wanted to find a way to create my own rather than buying more single use plastic bottles full of random ingredients. I simple put 1 tablespoon of baking powder into a spray bottle then slowly topped it up with distilled water as it bubbles as you add the water. A few drops of Lavender oil to finish it off and a quick shake, and you have a gorgeous smelling spray!
